Classic Covers - In Cold Blood

Below are images of the classic front cover designs for In Cold Blood. It is important to have an understanding of previous designs as this will inform a range of directions that the cover can be taken in as well as designs that have already been published

This classic design demonstrates one direction that a book cover can be taken in. The typographic approach is one of importance as the it demonstrates how the typeface reflects the genre of the book. This gives the audience a sense of context when viewing the book.

Although the main focus of this design is the typography, this is incorporated into an eye catching, appropriate illustration. This cover also maintains the typical colour scheme that is expected of a crime genre.

This classic cover demonstrates a more photographic approach to a cover design. The minimalist dull colour scheme doesn't give off a 'wow' factor for the book and therefore doesn't reflect the intensity and mystery of the story. This opinion could be argued as it is a contrast of the content.

This design is the one that stands out the most against the other classics covers. With having no understanding of the background behind the story, you would think that this cover relates to the murder being broadcast across many newspapers front pages. However, if as a reader you have a more indepth knowledge of the author and the story then you will be aware that Capote was originally influenced by the articles posted in the newspaper. Therefore, this design relates to a much larger target audience whilst still maintaining that relevance to the story.
