Decision Making

As a group we decided to finish our individual experiment and show each other what we had been working on. After doing this we were able to take aspects from each persons designs and incorporate them in to one.

From the designs that Leah created, we all liked the joining of the letters the most. This is because it includes the plus kerning element that gave the logo the flexible and accommodating feel of the company, as well as having the 'FLEX' linked to represent scaffolding. This was a more creative approach to the logo rather than leaving the type as the original layout.

The next stage of group experimentation involved adding an element that Rosie experimented with, involving the 'SCAFFOLDING LTD' and the line underneath 'BURFLEX'. This is a similar idea to one that I experimented with therefore we decided to incorporate all three together to see what the outcome looked like. The first design below is what we came up with adding the three designs together. We then continued with the experimentation by adjusting the positioning of the text and individual letters.

After a group discussion we came to the conclusion that neither of the designs were appropriately for the company as they drew attention away from the serious, well respected image that the scaffolding company had created for themselves. From this we decided to revert back to the original type to create a more classic design.

The red and green colour inspiration is from the original logo. This brings in the familiarity aspect as well as creating an image for the company. As we were unsure of which colour to go with, we asked our peers on their thoughts and opinion on the design. The conclusion was that the red was the most successful as it gave the slight burst of colour that the logo needs to be recognisable, without overpowering the visual display. There were many comments that the green was difficult to distinguish as it is a deep colour that fades into the background against the black type.

From this feedback we decided to continue with the red line and place the design on a black background. This is because the logo will feature in many medias therefore needs to work with white and black. This process is to ensure the design is clear and recognisable on different backgrounds.
