Carer Information Research

From reading various articles on mental health charities websites, the following notes have been made. These focus on the carer rather than the individual with the disability.

What counts as supporting or caring for someone else?

- You are a carer if you provide unpaid support for someone who has an illness, disability, mental health problem or addiction

- Research shows that 4/10 carers are men

- Caring for someone can differ in time periods, either being short or longterm care

What is involved with caring or supporting someone else?

- Providing support is a key factor when looking after another individual. This may be in the form of emotional support, cooking and cleaning, providing personal care for the individual, etc

- Some individuals may not accept or appreciate the care that you can giving which can make your behaviours/feels much harder to cope with
