45th Pentagram Paper

Creative Review, Patrick Burgoyne, 15th March 2016

'Overlooked' is the 45th Pentagram Paper produced as part of the 'self-published series'. The paper documents a series of screen printed manhole covers. Bright colours are used in the screenprinting process which contrasts the dull colours that are typically associated with the metal man hole covers. This is something that makes the paper stand out and demonstrates the uniqueness of the prints.

Screen printing is something that I have highlighted as a process that I would like to continue using in my practise. From the feedback received and the discussions had, it was discussed that screen print could be used to add those small elements of recognition detail. This is also a cheaper method of adding colour rather than using digital print. However, it was questioned how screenprinting relates to the content. The conclusion was made that as it is a traditional print method it relates the traditional element of the town, as well as some of the more traditional methods used in the street signs. This is a print method that requires further exploration due to the facilities and time required to print.
