Information Design - Research

As the public information leaflet that I am designing is based around the BHS road safety video, I gathered more detailed information that would contribute to the content of the leaflet. I specifically looked at the rules and guidelines of how to drive/behave around horses on the road.

Rules for drivers to follow:
1. Always leave room between you and the horse
2. Don't rev your engine
3. Don't sound your horn
4. Always wait till you can pass wide and slow

If you meet a horse on the road whilst driving...
- Slow right down and be ready to stop
- Give a wide berth, at least a cars width and pass slowly
- Avoid any actions likely to spook the horse(s) (splashing of a puddle, revving engine)
- Accelerate gently once you have passed the horse

Drivers should be aware that...
- Riders and horse may both be inexperienced and nervous in traffic
- A horse and rider intending to turn right will stay on the left of the road until they reach the turn
- Horse riders will generally tend to avoid difficult junctions such as roundabouts. If they do use them expect riders to keep let and signal right across exit to show that they are not leaving. Slow down and allow them plenty of room
