Designing for Screen

The differences between designing for screen over print

10 things print designers need to know about screen design, Creative Blog Staff, April 23 2013, 1/12/16

- When designing for screen, you can use rich media; with print you are limited to words and pictures, while on the web you can have a variety of different medias. This is something that would enhance a users experience with a magazine by interacting with the content through screen. Including video and audio would separate the content from that of the magazine.

- The user experience is vasty important, similar to the experience of a printed product. In terms of a website, the user experience needs to be positive to ensure that the user revisits the website, as well as maintaining their interest/attention at first and future visits. This can be achieved through simple navigation features and a consistent layout through the use of a grid system.

- A screen based design must/should be adaptable to the screen size that it is being viewed on. Having a flexible design allows for the layout to be successful on a range of different screens therefore maintaining consistancy and contributing to a positive user experience.

- There are a limited selection of 'web-safe' fonts that can be used in web design. These can be easily determined through the use of Google Web Fonts and Typekit. Using web-safe fonts is essential in producing a design that would be able to be live on the web. Research into the fonts that Country Living already use on their website will contribute towards the chosen fonts used for the website design.
