Country Living Fair

Prior to attending the event I organised a page in my note book so that I could quickly ask the target audience a question focused around which device they would use.

If you were to read a magazine through a screen based device, what would this device be?

Laptop - 10

PC - 6

iMac - 8

Tablet/iPad - 12

Mobile Phone - 4

Kindle - 0

From the results it is evident that most readers of the Country Living magazine would interact with a magazine through a tablet or laptop device. This will inform the design of the website as it will be made to be at its optimum performance through this device as well as using features that are most appropriate for these devices.

Any comments made -

- Prefer to read the actual magazine, don't like using a screen

- Once I had explained the reason behind reading the magazine through screen the individual then became more involved

- Reads The Times through mobile device but would be too small for C.L magazine

- Would be something that would take some getting used to

- Wouldn't like to read on the go as the content is too engaging - like to be at home on sofa with cup of tea

- Likes to keep magazines to look back on

- It's an aesthetic

Age Range (taken over a 20min period whilst sat at a table in the food area of the event)

18-25   - 8

25-30  - 4

30-35   - 8

35 - 40   - 23

40 - 50   - 19

50 - 60   - 7

60+    - 9

(a small minority of the 78 people recorded were male)

This method of data collection is not 100% accurate due to not having the accurate age of each of the individuals recorded. However from attending the event previously I had analysed that it would not be an appropriate environment to stop and ask individuals of their age therefore this method of recording research was more appropriate to the context.
Collectively, this data will help to structure a set of profiles of the target audience to reference to and inform design decisions.

As well as the primary research, the Country Living Fair also collect their own data for each fair that they hold. This secondary form of research provides more accurate data to analyse.

Harrogate:

Glasgow:

London:

On average this data shows that the average age of the individuals who visit the fair is 53. Although this is not an accurate idea of the average age of the readers of the magazine, a presumption can be made from those who interact with the magazine through attending the fair.
