Grids

I looked at the grid layout of The Guardian newspaper. Having a set grid means that there is a consistency thought out the newspaper pages as well as each issue.  This increases the legibility of the newspaper as well as creating a practical template for the designers. To complete this task I used tracing paper to outline the grid template that the newspaper used.

This particular grid consists of five columns and two rows with the text formatted in a flush left format. This is a simple template to follow, including image and type. Having such a simplistic design allows for the information to be interpreted and understood clearly by the audience which is key in keeping the reader fixed on the story.

Completing this task has highlighted to me how a simple template can help provide consistency throughout design as well as improving the audience's experience.
