From managing my time
through a physical documentation of self inflicted deadlines and print
appointments, I have been able to maintain a consistent workload with
completing the brief. This time allowed for the mistakes that were made to be
corrected and therefore improving the design production process. The main error
that occurred was in the printing process. To overcome these, various
discussions were had with the print technician where I learnt the imperfections
of the printer and therefore could overcome these with the design and the
production after print. Examples of this are increasing the distance of the
text away from the margin line so that no text was lost through the gutter.
Another print error that continuously occurred throughout each print
was inaccuracies with the positioning of the content on the page. This was
something that had to be taken into consideration when trimming the document
using the crop marks as guidance. This also highlighted the importance of completing
test prints. If the publication were to be commercially printed, it would not
be efficient or professional to print a design for the final time without
completing a test print. If there were mistakes, then there would be no time to
resolve these and therefore money would be lost and it would reflect badly. Learning
these skills through completing the brief has given me the knowledge that I
will be able to apply to future briefs and therefore make my practice more
efficient.
